Space Utilisation Survey And Audit Services
Mosaic Space can assist institutions with measuring space use in two ways: an analysis of the timetabled (planned) use of space, and the provision of a space utilisation audit. Mosaic Space is able to adopt a flexible approach to the delivery of each space utilisation survey that responds to the client's specific needs and constraints. These include full out-sourcing of the audit to Mosaic Space, including provision of data collection officers; external management and conduct of the audit, utilising data collection officers provided by the client; or various levels of joint arrangements between Mosaic Space and the client, particularly designed to enable the client to conduct similar future audits itself. Audits are not limited to just teaching spaces; we have the skills to audit staff work rooms, research space and ancilliary spaces too.
Using its proprietary room uitlisation information system RUIS, the company is able to quickly generate detailed information about space use that can provide:
- Data required for HEFCE, HEFCW and SFC reporting (HESA room utilisation statistics)
- Detailed information about the timetabled use of rooms
- Detailed information about the audited use of rooms
- Comparison between planned room use (timetable data) and actual room usage (headcount audit data)
- Year-to-year or semester-to-semester comparisons of timetabled or audit data
- Trend analysis of scheduled or audited space use over several years
- Benchmark comparison of utilisation rates with similar institutions
- Identification of under-utilised space, with recommendations for improvements and / or change of use
- Identification of bottlenecks in space use with recommendations for provision of additional space
- Identification of over-booking of rooms, or rooms used without having been booked
- A detailed recommendations report, outlining potential areas of improvement
This information provides clients with a clear picture of teaching space use, which can be used to make informed decisions in the areas of:
- Future provision of space / campus masterplanning
- Improvements / minor works to reconfigure space to provide a better fit to teaching delivery
- Enhancement of space management and timetabling policies
- Re-allocation of space to provide more equitable and efficient use of resources
